Hello Zune Fans I was watching Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update tonight and I was a little surprised when I looked at the graphic above the left shoulder of third year cast member Seth Myers and I saw a popular web image that we have featured several times here at zuneworld.com. It was an image of the Zune, the one with each of the colors represented. Seth proceeded to say “On Tuesday, Microft introduced it’s version of the iPod named Zune. As in, hey, my iPod is cooler than your Zune”. I have to admit that I was a little disappointed to see that because it follows the same close-mindedness that we have seen a great deal of since Microsoft officially announced the Zune several months ago. I’ll bet the SNL writers probably didn’t put much time into researching the device or that they even know whose the head of the development team that brought the device to market in the first place. Zune Opening Days Sales Somewhat by the Numbers |

So, just how was opening day for the Zune? Hmm…Let’s take a look at the numbers (at least the ones we’re aware of), well, no on actually has any firm numbers with the exception of reports from Best Buy employees. I personally visited my local Best Buy store yesterday and this morning to try and get a feel for how these are being initially received. I’m friends with two of their associates who work in their electronics department and they informed me that about 35 have been sold so far and that the biggest question regarding the Zune was “How is this compared with the iPod?”
They told me that interest in Zune was far better than expected and that about 20% of all questions were on the subject of the device. Obviously, the final sales numbers appear to be a little low (considering this was over a 1 ½ day period) but what might be just as important is the prospective fan interest in these devices. With Microsoft’s obvious intention to make these more of a community sharing device (Zune to Zune) than a standalone music player, I think will make these a rather hard sell at first. People will need to see their neighbors, peers and friends have one before they make the transition.

Rumors That Microsoft Zune Will Not be Available in UK for a Year |

Today Pocket Link (www.pocket-lint.co.uk) reported that the Zune could be delayed by as much as 12 plus months according to their sources. Reasons for this delay vary from Redmond not having appointed a manager to the UK for launch to their not having a music distribution solution. However, if this delay is indeed true, we at Zune World doubt that a company with such a strong British presence would have lacked the ability to foresee these issues on the horizon, especially considering the fact that the Zune development team is headed by the same person that developed the Xbox.
